- Preheat the oven to 300°F.
- Pat the brisket dry with paper towels.
- In a small bowl, combine the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika.
- Rub the brisket with olive oil, then season all over with the spice mixture.
- Place the sliced onion in the bottom of a roasting pan or large baking dish. Set the brisket on top.
- In a bowl, whisk together the minced garlic, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and tomato paste. Pour the mixture around the brisket.
- Cover the pan tightly with foil.
- Bake for 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 hours, or until the brisket is tender and can be easily pierced with a fork.
- Remove the brisket from the oven and let it rest, covered loosely with foil, for 15 minutes.
- Slice the brisket thinly against the grain.
- Spoon some of the pan juices and softened onions over the sliced brisket before serving.
